Skill-based cohorting
In lower and middle school, students are placed in different cohorts for math and reading based on their current skill level—rather than age—so they can learn at the right pace, with targeted instruction that meets their individual needs.
Small School, Big Ideas
The entire population of The Linder Academy is smaller than just a few classrooms in most other schools.
Our small program allows each child to follow a personalized path tailored to their unique needs and interests. Students receive skill-based instruction in small groups for areas like Orton-Gillingham and multi-modal math while also coming together for collaborative projects, experiments, and events.
Our approach also provides exceptional flexibility, allowing students to work at their skill level—whether mastering age-appropriate material or exploring interests and abilities beyond their age norms.
Mixed-age cohorts
A common challenge in modern education is the “grade-based” system, where students are grouped by age rather than ability. In a typical third-grade class, skill levels can range from kindergarten to fifth grade, with some students excelling in reading but struggling in math, or vice versa.
Research shows that skills-based cohorts are far more effective for learning. At Linder, we embrace this approach, providing the freedom to group students by ability rather than age.
Every student receives the education and enrichment they need—whether gifted or learning-different—with no limits holding them back and no gaps left unaddressed.
Core curriculum
At Linder Academy, we prioritize reading, writing, and reasoning—skills that are essential and applicable across all areas of learning. This doesn’t mean we limit exploration; in fact, we encourage free inquiry time for students to dive into their passions while applying these core skills to a wide range of subjects.
Problem-Based Learning (PBL)
We understand that learning is most effective when it connects to familiar concepts and is applied in meaningful ways. That’s why we use problem-based learning, allowing students to dive deeply into a single concept while integrating all academic subjects into its exploration. This approach demonstrates how academic skills work together to investigate, understand, and communicate about the world, rather than isolating them.
