Frequently Asked Questions

  • We support a wide range of learning profiles, including students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, nonverbal learning disability (NVLD), high-functioning autism, and twice-exceptional (2E) gifted learners. We also welcome neurotypical students—because all kids benefit from personalized education, structured supports, and a learning environment designed to bring out their full potential.

  • You heard right! Linder Academy is preparing to open a high school in the former Ross building on N. Washington Street in Old Town Alexandria, next to Christ Church. Construction will begin soon, and we plan to welcome our first high school students for the 2025-2026 school year. Applications are currently open, on a rolling admission basis. While construction is underway during the 2025-2026 school year, classes will take place in the classrooms inside Christ Church, next door to the future school building. To learn more, schedule an admissions call—we’d love to share details with you!

  • At Linder Academy, we don’t assign nightly homework. Research shows that homework often has little impact on learning outcomes, especially for younger students. Instead, we ensure students have plenty of time during the school day to practice and reinforce their skills. After school, we encourage students to rest, play, and pursue their interests so they can return refreshed and ready to learn.

  • Our priority is to ensure your child receives the support they need. We collaborate closely with families to provide personalized and flexible solutions tailored to each child. Additional math and reading support is available as needed. For occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT), and speech-language pathology (SLP), we welcome outside providers to work with students during the school day, either in a pull-out or push-in setting. Families often appreciate the convenience of having these services seamlessly integrated into their child’s schedule, eliminating the need for after-school appointments.

  • We make sure every child receives the support they need. We understand that some students may have daytime appointments with specialists or require specific supports, and we’re happy to work with families to accommodate these needs.

We also welcome third-party providers to work with students on campus during the school day. Linder staff coordinates directly with these providers to schedule sessions that won't interfere with essential content blocks. For pull-out services, we provide dedicated on-campus spaces. Push-in services are integrated directly into the classroom.

This approach often eliminates the need for after-school appointments, promoting a more balanced and stress-free routine for our families.

Here you can find our list of trusted partners. We invite new providers to begin the vetting process to join our community.

  • Linder partners with Wholesome Food Services to offer lunch options from popular local restaurants like Papa John’s, Noodles & Co., and Panera. Families can easily order meals through the Wholesome Food Services website using a school code, with costs paid directly to the provider. You can choose to order lunches for all school days or just specific days—Pizza Wednesdays are a favorite! There’s no commitment, and you can start or stop lunch orders anytime.

  • Yes! Linder offers after-school care for grades K–5 from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. Families can choose between monthly plans or flexible drop-in care at $30 per day. The program features a variety of engaging activities, including playground time, arts and crafts, games, and visits to the life lab to interact with the animals.

  • Linder has an Open Enrollment policy, meaning families can apply at any time throughout the year, space permitting. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis rather than adhering to a strict deadline. Visit the How to Apply page for more details.

  • Linder provides a limited amount of need-based financial aid to make our specialized education accessible to more families. Profits from our summer camps directly support the scholarship and financial aid fund. To learn more or start your application, visit our How to Apply page.

  • Admissions are not based on whether a student plans to stay long-term or short-term. Our goal is to support each child in achieving their unique objectives, whether graduating from Linder or transitioning to another school after a year or two.

  • Yes. While admission is not guaranteed, siblings of current students are given priority consideration during the application process. We value the strong sense of community that grows when families are part of the school together.

  • Our goal at Linder is to partner with families and provide radical transparency and real data on your student's progress. Linder conducts standardized testing three times a year, including IOWA testing and iReady reading assessments, and more frequent Orton-Gillingham (OG) and Singapore Math assessments. Data from these varied sources, alongside feedback from families, inform cohort placements.

Formal report cards and parent-teacher conferences twice a year provide updates on student growth. However, you can expect feedback much more often than this. Our teachers pride themselves on maintaining open communication. Families have a direct line to each teacher through messaging in the ParentSquare app.

  • The Linder Academy is actively working toward accreditation through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. This is an exciting milestone for our school, reflecting our commitment to providing exceptional education. The accreditation process takes 3-5 years, and includes a thorough review of everything from our curriculum and teaching methods to student support services and overall operations.

We’re proud to say that Linder already exceeds required standards in key areas that set our students up for success, including:

    - Testing
    - Progress monitoring
    - Evidence-based instructional practices

Our goal is full accreditation by the 2027-2028 school year, further solidifying Linder as a leader in fostering curiosity, creativity, and academic excellence.
