A few blocks from the waterfront in historic Old Town, Alexandria, this full-size campus has a small-town feel…

The Old Town campus is composed of two separate, side-by-side properties that we remodeled to create one cohesive space.

The first building is L-shaped, covering three original 1790 properties. At a total of 8,000 sq. ft., it houses several of our classrooms, the library, a design lab, life lab, and a (coming soon) learning kitchen.

Our second building is 5,000 sq ft and it houses even more classrooms and our popular student lounge.

Between these two buildings is an interior space that we remodeled into a central playground, garden and outdoor dining space.

We can currently accommodate grades K-8 at this campus.

Between outdoor gardens and indoor labs, this location maximizes human investigation. We can walk to the waterfront, take the ferry to the mall, and easily access the vast resources of our area or stay tucked away in our own space.

  • Rotating electives

Kids can choose a new elective every quarter from animal science to robotics… art to parkour. We can also use elective time for occupational therapy (if needed) and/or extra math or OG tutoring time if your child is struggling academically.

  • Project-based learning

Our afternoons at Old Town are project-based. We focus on problem-based learning and we’re the first elementary school in the nation to do so despite large evidence that it is the best way to create flexible knowledge and resilient learners.

We encourage inquiry and use it to fuel a child’s engagement in the process of learning.

We don’t expect our students to sit still and be quiet. We much prefer them to ask us questions—hard ones—and to be prepared to help find answers.

  • Field trips

With so many historic sights just a stone’s throw away, our field trip options are vast.

  • Gross motor, creative play

Playgrounds are great for building gross and fine motor skills. They build strength and dexterity, which can aid in other tasks like writing and drawing, too. They're essential for child development.

Our playground in Old Town is inspired by Swedish playgrounds focusing a lot on gross motor activities that require large muscle groups like the arms, legs and torso. It requires a higher level of energy to run, jump and play around and the kids love it!
